crete IslandCRETE MAN The view that the breeches were unknown in Crete before the Turkish conquest is not verified. Most likely to be received by the Cretans a breeches form by pirates of Algeria and Tunis, as they had been in a relationship. And though they had gotten from their pegs Highland Tzourtzoura Algeria, namely the tribe of Zouave, which is a branch of the great Berber tribe, which traditionally supplied warriors in Algiers and Tunis. Remarkable is the amazing similarity of traditional Cretan male costume in the traditional costume of the men of the tribe of Zouave. The 16th century pirates who infested the Mediterranean wore a type of breeches accompanied by waistcoat, fez with or without turban, wide belt and boots. Cretan sailors, as individuals or as workers in Venetian ships sometimes forced to wear clothes similar to the pirates that they confuse and until you become the perceived trick that seafarers have been removed from the pirates. It makes sense in times of great economic misery for the poor peasants of Crete, they continue to wear the navy this garment after they were demobilized from the boats, having no other clothes and with the tacit tolerance of the Venetians. Thus was established the breeches as formal dress of the Cretans. In western Crete they call "kartsa", while on the east "p (x) ialvari". There was, however, a whole island to be called, using the plural form of terms, breeches or "salvaria" and meant it, the whole costume. This garment continued to be worn by all Cretans until the early 20th century. The breeches made of baize and this deep blue color fabric and embroidered with a black cordon at the seams and legs. Breeches fill the stockings, which were previously separate part of the costume, and later began to be sewn on the breeches, trousers of the two.
